Ahhh, the old wet rear carpet on the VE problem strikes again. :(
Yep, I bet it's the plastice liner that has come adrift from the door and the water is leaking out from there. Had the same problem with the right hand rear.

Enquired about some of the Penrite 10 tenths 5w-30 full synthetic for the toy. Price seemed cheap with the RACV discounts at Repco, but alas I didn't know how much I'd be needing exactly.
Was sure it would be 6L give or take and they only had the 5L bottles. Not ideal to basically be "throwing away" the other 4L.
If you need 6ltr for the service, buy 5x 5ltr bottles (25ltr) and you’ll have enough to do 4 oil changes with 1ltr spare which you can use for top ups between oil changes…

Considering the mileage you do it seems like a no brained with no oil loss at all, simples :p

Picked up a filter and plugs for the VS. Already have oil here. Might get some fresh leads too.
Going to give it a service.
(I can do anywhere from 200 to 1200kms a week for work, past few have been 1000kms a week, so came around quick).

Washed the SS. Finally looks shiny.

Wouldn't be throwing it away...Buy more oil to top up to the required amount

Haven't driven the ve for a few days. Went to jump in tonight to go and get some fish and chips and it stinks. Smelt like a water leak .checked the floor and sure enough the carpet in the left rear is wet .

You're not trying to get out of house renos are you... :)

Hope that's quiet enough for the minister for war and finances not to hear...:)

Started removing the exhaust manifold on the GTI to replace the gasket. Some choice words and threats of waging another war on our German friends were made.

One of the exhaust studs sits behind the stud for the downpipe. Which means it's a spanner to remove situation.

But that isn't even the worst one. Two are hidden down behind the turbo oil feed lines and slightly off centre so it's behind the actual manifold by a few degrees.

All this would E fine if the manifold wasn't on the rear of the motor and involve laying on to access and a mirror as the only vision.

Umm...
I think the oil usage in the toy is negligible.
If in a year the toy does 600kms its a big year.

The daily VS cops the usage. It gets 20w-50 whatever is on special.
The toy gets as many washes as servo visits it feels like.

Apparently you can order 1L 10 tenths bottles. Don't want 4L sitting around each year for oil changes (if it doesn't go off in that time)

Vaguely remember it takes 7 years for oil to go off....

Was a discussion within the last 6 months on here over how long oil lasts sitting

Ah, it wasn’t clear to me that the 5w30 wasn't for the high mileage VS… I thought the VS was an SS

In any case oil supposedly has a 5 year shelf life (at least that’s what Castrol/She’ll tech support told me) :p

Is that for a opened bottle or a sealed bottle only, do you know?
