Hello, I have a 2004 Vy Maloo r8, when I start my car and I have the head lights turned off, my cluster registers them as being on and is illuminated as if it’s night time, then when I turn my head lights on my cluster registers as if they are off and doesn’t illuminate as if it’s day time, any idea how to fix, all body earth points are good,

Before I go further, have you checked the earth behind the battery on the inside of the guard? That's where the cluster earths, its a pain to access but start there if you haven't already.
But sounds something is switched around there, has it alwasys done this or is this something which was working fine and then started playing funny buggers?

Remove the vents along the dash at the base of the windscreen. that allows access to the sun sensor in the centre (the flat bit). Remove it, check for grot in it. Clean with CO Contact cleaner in there.
Let it dry.
Plug in with it loose and hope that fixes it.
If not likely faulty sun sensor. Have you also had problems unlocking the car?

It’s always worked fine, then it’s just started doing this out of No where, I dI’d check that earth and it seems to be all good.. can’t figure out what’s happened,

I don’t think it’s a sun sensor as its when I turn the Headlights on with the switch on dash not on auto headlights, and no problems unlocking car

If it’s just the cluster, it might need repairing.

By back probing the cluster plug, check the pin for park and headlights. See what that is doing.

Test with the cluster plugged in and with the cluster unplugged. Don’t shove anything to test it in the front of the plug.

just want to make sure that you are aware
the display is dimmer at night time than during the day
or do you actually mean backlighting turns on/off incorrectly

Backlights turn on and off incorrectly.

When you hold the mode and set button and go into the settings display, go across to where it shows park lamps on or off, when the switch is off and dash is illuminated it says park lamps on then when switch headlights on the dash isn’t illuminated anymore and it shows as park lamps off
