are you talking professional scan tool and genuine keyfob
or those aftermarket rubbish MAP fobs
if the MAP style then yes , they are garbage

I have a aftermarket key fob and then map scan but do have sanp on scanner at work

Put it on the drive and roll the car back over it and the module.

Then get a proper one done by Mister Minit or a locksmith.

Alternatively buy at a minimum, the Vident i400au with Holden software and you should be able to do it with a genuine key.

Or yes, use the snap on scanner. It will easily do the job.
