Bugger, that makes it more complicated.
Welcome to Just Commodores, a site specifically designed for all people who share the same passion as yourself.
I’m guessing the photocopied then faxed engineering drawings, got wet!Bugger, that makes it more complicated.
I’m reluctant to remove the cover let alone anything else in there. Diffs and gearboxes are a bit scary to me.It's not really a problem for me, I'll happily take out a pinion and grind it
But I don't think many would be happy to do that at home.
That sounds terrible! I was hoping to bolt in and go!All up to purchase my LSD centre (Chinese Trutrac) & get it fitted was around $2k with all new bearings and seals including R&R. We did run into an issue with the pinion fouling the new centre, so the pinion had to come out for machining (so additional collapsible sleeve, bearings, seal & labour). $400 for the LSD, $1600 machining/parts/labour. The fine print in the eBay ad did mention this may occur. Even to purchase a recon factory LSD is now $800 from reputable repairer. You could take a punt second hand.
Ive never changed my gears so I'm guessing its a stock ratio. Mine is a S trim level. Not sure what that is.Did yours foul on the stock 3.08 pinion or a different ratio?
And a clothes peg.Back in the day I did plenty of diffs, it’s one of the only major driveline components that really hasn't changed in the last 40 years. You just need the right tools, service manual, hoist, hydraulic press, shims & dial gauge.
