2010 VE Sports wagon
My 2010 Ve sports wagon is overheating, I’ve held the radiator, replaced the water pump and done a radiator clean. It runs great with the heater on full blast I’m currently terminally ill so can’t afford expensive Mechanjcs costs so hoping it’s not the thermostat. Any ideas?

Do the system hold good pressure in the hoses? The pressure caps on the V6 don't last forever, around 5 years then they don't hold pressure and can start overheating. So check if the hoses stay firm for at least 10 minutes once the engine is switched off after a decent drive. They are also hot so don't burn your fingers.

VZ Crewman, VZ Cross 8, & ya mum.
Inspect for leaks. Looking for dry pink stuff in places. Smell is a sweet smell when hot.

If all seems ok,
Bleed the air out
Replace the cap ($35) with a genuine one.
Make sure the reservoir is kept topped up. Check every day or after longer trips for a week or so.

You’ll need some red coolant (Nulon or Penrite) and some distilled water.

Here’s a walk through for various jobs on the cooling system.
