Hey mate thank you very much for your response earlier I really appreciate it, I was wondering how you plastic welded it? Did you melt zip ties or somthing along those lines??
I used a soldering iron, just a cheap one l had from jaycar. For the welding rods (hahahaha) l used the rest of the front wh bumper.
I cut long, thin strips of the bumper.

I also had a play with other car plastics, like the dash surround that l had, that needed repairing.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained! :)

If you go ahead with it, good luck. Remember it's not going to take 5 minutes. It took me months to do it.

Please keep the forum updated with your project or build thread! & pics too please!
We all like pics! :)

Thanks for all the advice I really appreciate it, I’m thinking of doing it yet I’m not sure if it will work with the two tone paint job (red and silver) what state are you in? Is there any chance you would be willing to make a second? Seeing yours turned out so well, again thank you for your help

I'm not a professional, don't know anything, but if l want something, l try & do it myself.

Hi
Last year l got my key fob copied, $100.00 No driving here, there, & everywhere in between trying to get it cheaper.
Earlier in the year my fob stopped working. Great l have the other one. Which of course works.
Couple of weeks ago l realised no spare. My original was still about so l thought l'd get a new case (ebay $4.75) & battery (jaycar $2.45).
Battery l got last week, case came yesterday.
I split the case with a large screw driver, then a smaller one. Checked with a multimeter how flat my battery was. To my surprise it wasn't flat at all. Showed full charge.
Anyway re shelled the electronics with the original battery, just pushed the case together, no glue, sealer or anything else. Put the original key in & screwed in the screws. Took out to car & pressed unlock button, no work, which didn't surprise me. Opened with key, no problem but the alarm went of. Put key in ignition & started it. Alarm stopped its noise. While key was still in ignition l pushed the lock button (on the fob & it locked) then pushed the fob unlock button & it unlocked. I believe this is called re-syncing. Cool. That is probably all l needed to do to have the fob working, was to re-sync it.
Just got myself a spare key & a spare battery for $7.20. Still cheap, so l'm happy.
Hope this can help some one else.

Ancient thread I know, but just to add, my VX (avatar picture) still has both remote fobs, working, and on their original batteries... I have replaced the buttons on both. That's all. 2001 VX.. Now 2024. Yes, the car's has been driven. It was my work car, now still my daily, with 352000 k's.

I had the adaptor plate made.
47 mm wide between the block & trans. Had to be that wide to clear the starter motor.

Had the torque converter made, basically 6l50 t/c back part that sits on the shaft, & the front was 3 blocks welded to the standard block that would get bolted to the flex plate. The centre part that sits behind the crank was extended too.
Took a couple of visits to the t/c workshop with the trans & a mockup motor block to get it fitting correct.

Then called in a flatbed to take it to the tailshaft shop.

Is he going to run the 6L50 beefed up, ot 6L80.?

That was a helluva big job Lex!
Lots of custom work.
Ever considered building a hot rod? They require LOTS of that kind of work.

From where I'm sitting and what I've seen and read, you definitely have some skill and lots of patience for car stuff.
