It's all about rim width, correct offset, camber and height

Nothing that a tape measure and calculator cannot figure out

People told me there was no way of fitting 275/40 17 in the rear of my VX, even with rolled guards, a tape measure and a few calculations proved them wrong and am now running 275/40 17 on 17x9.5 +46 with -0.5° camber

The front are 235/45 17 on a 17x8.5 +43 with -1.5° camber, although it has run 245/45 17 on the front previously

Both front and rear have heaps of clearance at slightly lower than FE2 height

Google will show you how to measure so you know what wheel size/offset, ride height (both static as well as compressed) and camber requirements are required for good clearance
