Power does not = energy.
Watts and therefore kilowatts are a THEORETICAL unit. They don't exist.
Engines apply a turning force. The greater the turning force, and the greater the number of times they apply that turning force in any given time, is what makes us happy - acceleration.
The power figure is best thought of like this - "If my engine was hooked up to an alternator of infinite capacity, and I ran it at the most effecient (efficient being least wasteful in heat and noise generated, has nothing to do with fuel consumption) revs for my engine, how much electrical energy in watts would I make ?
obviosuly this has nothing to do with getting a car down the 1/4 mile.
