a bit of grease on the threads before you put them in and tighten them up.

its for later on when you want to take them out.

I got new shoes. They are "dog house" from rivers for 14 bucks. :)

Yay! No more holes in my riding shoes. Haha

Yeah, will grease the threads. Got my lithium grease spray handy. :)

So the start to my fork service efforts was not a great one.

There are six bolts that clamp the crowns onto the Stanchion. Five of those were don't up to the correct torque, one was done to the point I wasn't able to undo it and ended up stripping the inside of the bolt head.

2 hours later I managed to get it out.

So this Sat I will need to pop down to the bike shop, and get 6 new bolts.

Then the service continues.

Alrighty, UPDATES!

So I successfully serviced the forks on Saturday. I have to admit it was easier than I expected and the most time consuming bit was finding where I put down tools.

It turns out the stanchions had a little internal damage too, so I gave them a once over with some 2000grit wet and they will be fine for a while. I also found that the kit I for the uppers had bits for all 3 variants so I have some spares now which is good!

Pics of service:

Stanchions finished and re-assembled:

I then decided that I would put the Saints on, which should have been an easier job if it wasn't for 2 things:

1. The same ape who put in my crown bolts was also involved in tightening the left pedal.
2. Me not being a retard and ending up tightening it towards the end after forgetting which side up I had clamped the crank in vice.

Saints are on!

I still haven't been able to source a bolt for the crown though! I have visited two bike shops and neither had them. At one the guy gave me a blank stare when I said was I was after which was not a promising sign.

And all the ones I can find online are from Canada or the UK, so I hope I can find them in OZ as I want to go riding this weekend.

So, went our riding at Lysterfield today with a few mates.

Was a great day and the fork service was SOOOO worth it. Completely different feel to the forks.

Also, the Saints, bloody amazing! My foot felt like it was glued to them and they are a really nice platform to ride on. Plus the some out further than me old pedals so feel a bit more stable.

I managed a personal best of 2:14 on Follow Me, which puts me in 58th place on Strava for that segment which I am pumped about.

Here are some videos from the day:

Unfortunately, the day didn't end of a high.

The last run of the day, I was fatigued and stuffed up the easiest little jump towards the end of Aneurysm. Bloody hurt!

All my pads and F/F helmet paid themselves off today as I only have some minor grazes across my back and here and there on my legs. Without the gear my knees and hands would have been worse for wear and I would have eaten some dirt.

Here is the video:

Bike came out of it without a scratch aside from the fork rebound knob flying off somewhere.

And I also took some pictures of the bike on the long, painful, walk back to my car.

Looks like you had a good day, I was there for the first time this arvo as well and had a great day. Saw someone with an almost identical bike to yours and thought is that Jest? But he didn't have a FF helmet.

This is a first for me, and a rare thing in the future so I thought I would screenshot. :)
