    Urethane bushes

This has come up a few times, but it takes a few threads to get to the bottom of things some times. Urethane bushes and strut tops. There are 3 or 4 brands. Are they all the same or different. They claim all kinds of things but I think most of it is marketing. So in short, do you think there...

How do you sell it when it's time to go?

The time has come to part with my very trusty VE. 300 plus ks on the clock and mostly solid but of course showing it's age in some ways. Trans seen better days. Is there a market for these old warriors? What should it go for?

    SIDI carbon cleaning thoughts??

How much of an issue is this? Recently bought an evoke with about 120,000 km on it and curious if the valves are likely to be full of carbon and need a clean. If it needs cleaning what is the best way to fix it? Do I need to lift the intake and spray intake cleaner straight on the valves...

VF wagon, would you buy one?

Looking at replacing my worn out VE. How would you rate a VF wagon? Are some years better than others? Is a 3 litre wagon better on fuel than a 3.6 VE sedan? Seems odd the rear middle seat doesn't have a headrest. The middle passenger could get quite a headache in an accident. Opinions welcome.

What wagon or SUV would you buy for 20k?

I'm still committed to the commodore for now but it's getting older and the ks are getting up there so there's no knowing how long it will last. The next car could be a late model VE VF if it's not crazy expensive or something else. So in the something else category are things like a...

Rebuild tailshaft at home yay or nay?

The last 15years have taken their toll and the tailshaft needs doing. Center bearing and rubber donuts have flogged out. What's the best way to go? Pull it out on stands and rebuild it? Buy a reco unit, or give it to mechanic with a hoist? Exhaust has to come out too. If you have done yours...

Left and Right rear lower control arms same or different?

Interested to know the answer if anybody knows. The lower control arms appear to be the same on both sides. The same part number is stamped on both. The only different I can see is the bush is direction of the bush is inserted the opposite direction, with the larger flange towards the front. I...

VE fuel filter change worth doing?

So it seems most people just but the butter and swap the whole pump assembly over. That send to cost around 300 bucks which is a fair chunk of change. My pump is original as far as I know and it's done nearly 300,00km. Still going ok but I suspect the little filter will be full of shite by now...

    Rear windscreen window tint peeling

The 15 year old tint factory tint has seen much better days. It's getting cloudy and peeling off around the edges. The rear windscreen is by far the worst area. It is starting to obstruct my view through the mirror. What is the best solution? I would like to peel it off without damaging the rear...

Suspension bushes: which ones and where to buy??

The VE is slowly heading for 300,000ks and over 10 years old so I have a feeling some of the bushes are flogged out. Wheel alignment is a bit suspect as well which I think is related to the shagged bushes. Would they all need doing or just certain ones? I don't want to go full Superpro or...

I Replaced the engine mounts last week after a long hard life of over 270000 ks. Probably should have done them a few years ago but better late than never. Does anyone know the torque specs for the K frame to chassis bolts? It sounds like there is some movement going around corners or over...

How do you pull the taillights out of a VE sedan?

I was washing my car today and noticed a fair bit of dirt around the tail lights in the recess under the boot lid. So I tried to pull one of the taillights out by removing the 3 10mm nuts holding them in but the light won't come for free and I don't want to break it. Are they glued in place or...

    Screwdriver sets, what's best?

I've always used the good old Stanley box set with the green and yellow handles and a few other odd screwdrivers for working on cars and whatever else I do. They all look good to start with but soon enough the tips start to round off and become useless on anything super tight and start munching...

    Stanley socket sets any good?

SuperCheep has a few Stanley sets on sale at the moment. I'm thinking of getting one for my brother for Christmas. Replacing rear rotors, any tricks needed?

Got a set of genuine rear rotors and some pads ready to go on when it's not raining. If I release the handbrake will the rotor pull off or do you need to adjust handbrake back as well? I guess after the new rotors are on the handbrake will need some adjustment anyway but is there usually enough...

Anyone done an Adrenaline V8 drive day?

    O2 sensors advice needed.

Had the engine light come on recently and stay on. Car still drives normal. Got it scanned and there were a few oxygen sensor codes logged. Not sure exactly what the codes were. Cleared the codes. Few days later engine light came back on no doubt for the same reason. I've heard a lot of people...

    Alloytec needs a water pump.

There's been a slight tick from the drive belt for a while and very slowly getting worse. Sometimes the tensioner shakes and i can feel the water pump pulley wobble a bit so I'm going to change it out. The tensioner is already new. There are lots of pumps for sale online from $25 up to...

Temp gauge stuck at 3/4 after overheating?

When my radiator failed the temp needle went up to about 3/4 and an engine overheat warning chimed up on the dash. Now I've replaced the radiator and it's running ok but the needle is still stuck at 3/4. Would that mean my gauge or sensor is buggered or would it have logged an overheat code...
