... no rush. *shrug* Thinkin': keep the Hilux bullbar for the Commodore & chuck some grumpy vertical truck exhausts between the doors. *Lift kit. *Footpad(s) beneath the doors. *Snorkel. *Diff' etc, whatever needs to be replaced.

Glad to hear it To-do-list: (A) Get the Hilux roadworthy. (B) Chuck the 308 V8 block from Dads old VK into his Hilux. (C) Chuck the top half (the hat) of Dads VX (the shell) on the Hilux chassis. #V8FourWheelDriveCommodore ... prolly take a while.

Okay, sorry to make this a scratched record. Just wanna make sure I understand correctly. To verify: Chuckin the top half of the VX on the Hilux chassis and have it roadworthy, is possible, right? (Basically do the same thing as the picture)

Also, the chassis/shell: Someone was pointing out that the sizes don't equal, so, hypothetically, I'd need a wider axle. Right'o, so why not just chuck the VX shell on the Hilux chassis, then chuck in a wider axle?

Question: A Pillars: What's needs to be done to fix that? Not gonna do it myself, just wondering. Grind out the rusty bit(s) then weld in a filler? What you reckon one of those A pillars worth to repair specifically? Couple hundred? $200-500? Thanks in advance

Yeah, that's me every year with registration. Always expecting an unexpected/expensive problem that keeps me off the road for a bit longer than expected. I'll keep ya's posted. If I get a green light, I'll let ya's know how long til I chuck the 308 in it, or puttin VX shell on ...

Spend some time dismantling it, do what I can, then send it in for assessment? *Green light: pay for repairs/panels/whatever. *Red light: keep it as a functional bush basher.

Guarantee he wouldn't. Whole reason he left it unregistered. I get it. It's not a guaranteed next step, just trying to understand, specifically, why not. A-pilars stood out to me, & make sense. Can't see why 20k is realistic tho?

Cheers for the feedback guys. Puts things in perspective'ish. How bout I spend the next 6-12 months pulling it apart, de-rusting it as much as possible? Then getting it assessed ... A-Panel: fixable? Mechanic needs to weld the sh*t out of it?

Just want it roadworthy, not mint. As much as possible, I'd just replace & paint the panels myself. Don't need it looking brand new. Just roadworthy. You reckon $2000/$17k/$35k?

Yeah, fair 'nuf. But if I replace the back half with a flat tray, that's half the job done, right? (I mean, that makes the piece of string %50 shorter, no?)
