Holden did do a software update on the early VEs to extended the amount that the timing chain could stretch before it logged a code. If your vehicle is an early model and hasn’t had that software update then it might be possible to get it done and then the CEL would temporarily go away...

Replace your water pump too. The water pump shaft seals are meant to be somewhat lubricated by the ethylene glycol in the coolant. If it’s been running on tap water then it’s on borrowed time.

I’ve never had to replace the whole housing so no idea. I always did my own services on my old SV6 so never had the problem of it being over tightened.
