I had a similar issue with my V6 on LPG, had a air lock in the Heater circuit that it would not clear. In the end I pulled the hose off the water pump going to the heater and LPG mixer and shoved the garden hose up it and then quickly shoved the hose back on the waterpump. That did the trick...

What centre are you using?

Have you adjusted the centre carrier bearings? You can move the whole diff centre over to get backlash.

I'd wait with replacing the pump. Try and clean it out good and proper first. When you aren't getting any more debris in the filter then consider changing the pump or just leave it. If the bearings feel good and it's not leaking then maybe the seal has survived.
