Cool. So are the only metric bolts/ studs like exhaust manifold and head bolts? I’ve only heard good things about gear wrench

Spanner kit sizes for VR Commodore V6

Cheers mate. So I shouldn’t worry about imperial sizes right? So this spanner size range should be fine to work on commodores, and the Buick and ls1 motors? Price looks quite fair considering they seem to be good quality

Spanner kit sizes for VR Commodore V6

Hi all, Looking to buy a quality ratchet spanner kit since there are a few sales going on. Found a set containing: 8mm, 10mm,12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 17mm and 19mm. Is this a good range to be able to use on both the engine and car itself? Or would I need to also purchase 15mm,16mm, 22mm, etc? Cheers

    Clear coat and stone chips

Hi all, Just curious here… When a clean stone chip (when down to bare metal) appears on a given panel, does it mean that clear peel will occur, even when the touch up is fixed correctly? Assuming this panel is perfect and free of imperfections. In other words, do stone chips necessarily mean...

    VE Commodore Sedan-Headliner sagging

Bust out the stapler and go Rambo! Lol don’t. But seriously, if you do it yourself, really take the time to clean the board properly and rid the residue which won’t cause a good bond with the new material

Long, high idle warmup during cold start

Hi all, You know how generally with a lot of cars, during the cold start the car will sit at about 1000rpm for 30 seconds before dropping to normal idle rpm. Well my VR V6 Commodore during a cold start will idle at 1000rpm for around 3 minutes or so before dropping to the normal idle rpm. This...

How is everyones Ecotec holding up to the high Ks? How much more life can I expect from my engine?

To answer op question, they seem to be a very forgiving engine even not necessarily maintained to a T, or have even skipped a few services. Checked out a VS a few months back with around 300 km on it and it was running fine. It wasn’t thrashed, but at the same time it wasn’t meticulously...

How is everyones Ecotec holding up to the high Ks? How much more life can I expect from my engine?

Cheers. Always wondered whether the Buick/ ecotec had a stronger bottom end than Alloytec. Used to own an alloytec.

How is everyones Ecotec holding up to the high Ks? How much more life can I expect from my engine?

Would you say that ecotec has a stronger bottom end and internals (besides timing chain) and can stand more abuse compared to Alloytec? Just curious.

    Always check your fluids

Oil burning will smell different than fuel. White smoke is usually not oil burning. Is the soot dry or wet in the exhaust tip?
  19. A

    Always check your fluids

Does the exhaust smoke smell like oil is being burnt, or just a strong petrol odour? If you run your finger inside the tip your exhaust and it has soot or carbon, and it feels greasy, then it could be burning oil. If it is dry, it could be a sign of the engine running rich. Burnt oil will...

    Removing manifold to install insulators

No worries! If I recall correctly, when I did the manifold spacers on my old SV6, I had to remove a connector on the back of the manifold, however the instructions pointed to another connector which was irrelevant. I was heaps confused.
  30. A

    Removing manifold to install insulators

You don’t need too. Just allow a couple of good hours to do the job properly, and make sure you do it so the gasket maker that goes on top of the actual spacers has enough to dry before starting the car

Installing your new memcal in your VN - VS Commodore (V6 & V8)
