Broken nut on oil filter cap

One other thing I noted with the new filter cap (correct part), is that it only screws down hand tight with some of the o-ring visible and the area above the o-ring (not the thread, but between the o-ring and lip of the cap) remains visible. My other one was done up to the lip, and other images...

Broken nut on oil filter cap

Indeed I did, overall I actually didn't mind the whole process too much cos I learnt a bunch of things It needs a 24 mm socket :- ) 6 point, not 12 point.. ask me how I figured that out lol

Broken nut on oil filter cap

Heya, I just came back to update this for anyone down the line who's got this problem. I wasn't confident taking the oil filter housing off myself, I got a mobile mechanic out and he chipped away at it for like an hour with a huge chisel, crowbar and hammer. No metal was in the housing itself. I...

Broken nut on oil filter cap

I tried a normal ratchet first, then the breaker bar + socket which is what broke it. There's not a lot of space in there, I took the airbox out and it helped a bit, but it's still hard to fit the chain wrench in there and I can't get enough room for the strap wrench (not that I think it would...

Broken nut on oil filter cap

Just out of curiosity, I'll definitely need to replace the filter housing as well? There's no way to get it off without that? Or is it the risk of metal going down into the housing? Honestly I was not surprised by this at all, I had read up about it before trying it and new it was a risk but...

Broken nut on oil filter cap

I think it would be difficult cos there's some kind of plastic-wrapped wiring loom right next to it, plus the base of the airbox (I'll take a pic tomorrow when it's light) - also I'm a bit worried about the exposed oil filter being a fire risk since there's a hole opening into it now or maybe...

Broken nut on oil filter cap

Heya, I broke the nut off my VE's oil filter cap today while trying to bust the bastard loose. I wasn't the last one who serviced it, I guess they did it up way too tight. I went out and got a chain wrench and the rubber style strap wrench from Repco, but couldn't find the oil filter cup...

The Super Duper Timing Chain Thread!

If you have no symptoms, no codes and no noises I would honestly not worry about it.

    Gulf Western 5w30 for ve?

My VE has 227,000 kms on it. I've always taken it to get serviced before but now I'm looking at doing it myself cos I just got quoted 350 for a service. Autobarn's doing a sale on gulf western at the moment, is this stuff good to use for an sv6...

The Super Duper Timing Chain Thread!

Does this sound like chains going? Never done a chain code, just very rare P0420 and (once) P0430 in the last 8 months which I'm now suspecting might actually be timing related and not cat related. The drivers side is worse (in terms of noise) than the passenger side which would tie in to the...

Will stock mufflers fit on a hurricane system (VE)

Probably a weird question but both my rear mufflers are f*cked completely and I'd like something (anything) to reduce the drone at 1.5-2k rpm until I can save up for a different system. Right now driving it is unbearable, it's embarrassing how droney it is :') The car has a hurricane catback...

    Exhaust for SV6

Haha yeah I saw that thread, to be honest I liked how it sounded when I got the car a few years ago, it's obviously degraded quite a bit since then. It wasn't that loud, just had a nice rumble (in my view). Now it just sounds very loud / droney and to be honest pretty bad. I had a look on...

    Exhaust for SV6

I could not tell you anything about it unfortunately other than it's loud as sh!t (not in the good way but in the 'this is embarrassing' way). The previous owner put it on, or the owner before that. The mufflers are both rattly, right hand moreso than left. Drone is most obvious from about...

    Exhaust for SV6

I know there's some mixed views on exhausts on the sv6 here :p I do want to get something though, but don't want it to sound ridiculous loud or tinny. Mine is a hurricane system but its all fucked apparently, so being that I'm looking to potentially get a new one, are stock exhausts with...
